I don't think it's necessary, but it would certainly reduce the occasional need to flip pages back to remind yourself of the place various minor characters play in Lucy's complicated life. And then there's Olive Kitteridge who shows up in a big way in Tell Me Everything.
Breaking news indeed! Another long wait. But I think it will be worth it. I read the whole series in a strange strange week where I was asked to work for a Middle East client (old life as a management consultant)… but it was during Ramadan. So I arrived on a Monday… and didn’t see anyone for the whole week in daylight hours! What to do? Sit in an office and ‘work’? No one assigned me anything. So…
No!! What was in my work satchel? A novel of course.
I had found the first one … Recommended? And then had to get the rest as I was reading at such an uninterrupted clip.
And that was one of my most blissful and engrossing reading weeks. paid to just sit. And be transported. I doubt I’ve ever read so much in the daylight hours!
What a shame I couldn’t sink into a bath while reading… but that would have rumbled the rest of the company. Thank you for shari g the picture of your copy. I wish I knew where mine are…
Elizabeth Strout's Lucy Barton books ... My Name Is Lucy Barton (2016), Anything Is Possible (2017),
Oh William! (2021), Lucy by the Sea (2022), Tell Me Everything (2024).
I've read only the first....do you recommend reading them in order?

I have never heard of these books! They sound like just what we need.
They are completely transporting.

This is one of the best stories about reading that I’ve ever heard! But management consultant? Really? When????
Elizabeth Jane Howard has been on my list for a long time but I’ve never read…moving Cazalet Chronicles up on the list!
I loved these books, will read again after seeing this. I was so jealous of their Shakespeare education. Thank you for reminding me.
On it! Thank you
Let me know what you think!
Just ordered The Light Years on kindle. xx
Not as satisfying as reading a tattered paperback copy but I'm too impatient to wait for delivery!
I hope you like it; it's not your usual kind of book!
